eBOS participates in MonB5G, a new EU-funded project designing and deploying a zero-touch management and orchestration in the support of network slicing at massive scales for 5G LTE and beyond

On the 3rd and 4th of December 2019, 25 representatives of the consortium of MonB5G (‘Distributed Management of Network Slices in Beyond 5G) assembled in Barcelona, Spain to formally kick off this Research & Innovation Action, funded by the Horizon 2020 EU Framework Programme. The project is coordinated by the SMARTECH Department of the Telecommunications Technological Centre of Catalonia (CTTC), which hosted the meeting that brought together the project’s 12 partners from 8 European countries. 

The MonB5G project will last three years and develop the architecture and prototype of a novel distributed mechanism framework for the management and orchestration of network slices for 5G technologies and beyond. The project will also deliver a proof-of-concept providing a hierarchical, fault-tolerant, automated data driven network management system that incorporates security as well as energy efficiency. Demonstration will be carried out in two experimental platforms:

(i) CTTC’s 5G testbed in Barcelona, Spain.

(ii) Eurecom’s 5G trial facility in Sophia Antipolis, France.

Dr. Loizos Christofi, R&D Director and Dr. George Guirgis, R&D Project Manager represented eBOS Technologies at the meeting, where all partners reaffirmed the common objective to create a zero-touch management and orchestration system that combines a novel autonomic management and orchestration framework, leveraging distribution of operations together with state-of-the-art data-driven mechanisms based on Artificial Intelligence (AI).

’MonB5G is a project contributing to the longer-term European vision for 5G networks and beyond. The challenge is to transform future telecommunications networks into a low energy and secure distributed system, where processes and applications are automatically created and moved, based on Artificial Intelligence, depending on the information flows and customer needs, and where new applications in cars, connected objects, smart appliances, become the basis of the interaction between humans and the infosystems’’, said Dr Christos Verikoukis, Fellow Researcher at CTTC and Head of the SMARTECH department, who chaired the meeting as Coordinator of the project. 

In MonB5G, eBOS will be involved in the:

  • Design of the MonB5G security framework;
  • AI-driven security algorithms to provide novel mechanisms for mitigation of network slicing threats;
  • Integration and testing of all components, and Proof-of-Concept (PoC) experimentation;
  • Dissemination and communication of the project’s results, including the development and maintenance of the project’s website and social media presence.
