Subject:H2020 project IoT-NGIN aiming to fuel the Next Generation of IoT as a part of the European Next Generation Internet kicks off!

On the 15th and 16th of October 2020, the Horizon 2020 project IoT-NGIN ''Next Generation IoT as part of Next Generation Internet'' held a successful virtual kick-off meeting via teleconference. This new EU-funded Research and Innovation Action is coordinated by Mr. Garg, Shivam representing Capgemini Technology Services. Ms. Maria Anastasi , R&D Project Manager and Mr. Philippos Philippou R&D Senior Project Manager, represented eBOS Technologies at the kick-off meeting, which brought together 44 participants from 19 partners and 8 EU countries. The IoT-NGIN consortium unites technology providers that are already involved in major European projects, along with academical researchers.

The project aims to unleash the power of Next Generation IoT as an essential dimension of the Next Generation Internet (NGI) and become the “IoT Engine''. IoT-NGIN uncovers a patterns-based meta-architecture that encompasses evolving, legacy, and future IoT architectures. Furthermore, it optimizes IoT/M2M and 5G/MCM communications, including using secure-by-design micro-services to extend the edge cloud paradigm. Lastly, it enables user and self-aware, autonomous IoT systems through privacy-preserving federated ML and ambient intelligence, with AR support for humans.

The kick-off meeting presented the opportunity to introduce the project partners involved in the project as well as to present the vision its objectives, including an overview of the expectations and plan ahead to ensure its successful implementation. To that end, the Work Package Leaders had the opportunity to present the planned activities for each section of work and also the deliverables reports to be prepared within the project lifetime.

In IoT-NGIN, eBOS will lead activities related to collecting, analysing, and documenting requirements for the ‘Next Generation IoT Meta-Architecture’ that will be developed in the project. More specifically, eBOS will coordinate actions related to the refinement of the use cases, the detailed architecture of the IoT-NGIN Platform and technical specifications of its components, along with the testing framework for the validation and the benchmarking of the results.

Furthermore, eBOS will:

  • Contribute to the analysis of the next generation of IoT Privacy, data protection, Ethics, Security & Societal (PRESS) concerns
  • Participate in the realisation of methods and tools to enhance IoT devices discovery and recognition
  • Undertake exploitation and dissemination activities.
